Prices below start from USD 1,800 per person, and each package shows the full day-by-day itinerary, what is included and what is not. If none of them fits your dates or budget, we will adjust the route, the lodges or the length and send you a clear quote, usually within a few hours.

What is included in a Tanzania safari package

A good safari package should leave no surprises on the day you pay. Ours include a private safari vehicle with a pop-up roof and a guaranteed window seat for every guest, a professional English-speaking driver-guide who stays with you for the whole trip, accommodation for every night of the itinerary, all meals as listed, drinking water on game drives, and the national park, conservation and crater fees. Airport transfers in Arusha are part of the plan too.

What is not included is clearly listed on every package: international flights, visas, travel insurance, tips and personal spending. We say this up front because the biggest cost differences between safari companies usually hide in what is left out, not in the headline price.

How to choose the right package

Start with the time you have. Two or three days is enough to see Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater and is the usual choice for travellers who combine a safari with Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar. Five days lets you add the Serengeti on a fly-in or a long drive. Seven days or more is the comfortable way to do the Serengeti properly, with a night in a second area of the park so you are in the right place for the herds.

Then think about the season. The dry months from late June to October are the classic time for game viewing and for the Mara River crossings in the northern Serengeti. January and February bring the calving season in the south of the park, when thousands of wildebeest calves are born on the Ndutu plains. The green months of April and May are quiet and cheaper. Our guide to the best time to visit Tanzania explains each month in detail.

Finally, decide the style. Budget safaris use simple lodges or camping and a shared route. Midrange safaris use comfortable lodges and tented camps. Luxury safaris use the best camps in the best locations and often fly between parks. We list each package with its style so you can compare fairly.

The main safari areas in northern Tanzania

Most Tanzania safari packages follow the northern circuit, a loop of five famous parks and conservation areas that are all reachable from Arusha. Tarangire National Park is known for its elephants and baobab trees and is about two hours from Arusha. Lake Manyara is a compact park of forest, lake and tree-climbing lions. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area has the world-famous crater, home to the densest population of large predators in Africa. The Serengeti is the largest and most diverse of them, and the stage for the Great Migration.

The southern circuit, which includes Nyerere, Ruaha and Mikumi, is quieter, wilder and reached by air, and suits travellers on a second visit. If you are not sure which side of the country suits you, read our comparison of the northern and southern safari circuits.

Why travellers book with Golden Memories Safaris

We are a Tanzanian company based in Njiro, Arusha, so the person who plans your trip is the same person who knows the guides, the camps and the roads. Our guests rate us 5.0 out of 5 on SafariBookings and Tripadvisor and 4.8 on Google, and you can read every review on our reviews page before you decide.

You also deal with us directly, with no overseas middleman adding a commission. That is why our prices are honest and why we can change an itinerary quickly when your plans change.

A sample 7 day Tanzania safari package

To show how a package fits together, this is the classic seven day northern circuit we sell more than any other. Your own plan will follow your dates and your interests.

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Your driver-guide meets you at your hotel or the airport in the morning. After a two hour drive south you reach Tarangire for an afternoon game drive among elephants and baobab trees, then sleep at a lodge or tented camp near the park.

Day 2: Tarangire to Lake Manyara and the highlands

A morning game drive in Tarangire, then a drive to Lake Manyara National Park for the forest and the lake, ending at a lodge on the edge of the Ngorongoro highlands.

Days 3 to 5: the Serengeti

You cross the highlands, pass the Ngorongoro Crater rim and drop onto the Serengeti plains. Three nights in the park give you six game drives, in two different areas if you want to follow the migration. Your guide chooses the route each morning from what the other guides have seen.

Day 6: Serengeti to the Ngorongoro crater rim

A last morning game drive, then the drive to the rim of the crater, where you spend the night with a view over the caldera.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater and back to Arusha

Descend into the crater for a morning game drive, picnic by the hippo pool and drive back to Arusha by late afternoon for your evening flight or hotel.

When to book and how far ahead

The best camps in the Serengeti are small, and in July to October and over Christmas they are full many months ahead. As a rule of thumb, book six to nine months ahead for the high season, three to five months for the shoulder months of June and November, and four to eight weeks for the green season. Last-minute trips are possible, especially for shorter safaris and day trips, but your choice of camp will be narrower.

Booking early does not cost more. Our prices are the same whenever you book, and we explain the cancellation terms for your dates before you pay a deposit.

What a day on safari looks like

A normal day starts with a wake-up call around half past five and a hot drink before sunrise, when the animals are most active and the light is soft. You drive until mid-morning, return to camp for a cooked breakfast or have a bush breakfast in the park, and rest in the heat of the day. The afternoon game drive begins around four and continues until dusk, when you return to camp for a hot shower and dinner. Some travellers prefer a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch, and your guide will plan the day around what you want to see.

Health, visas and insurance

Most visitors need a Tanzania visa, which you can apply for online before travel, and a passport valid for at least six months. Yellow fever vaccination is required if you arrive from a country with a risk of transmission, and malaria prevention is recommended for all visitors. Travel insurance that covers medical evacuation is essential. We send you a full pre-travel checklist when you book, and our guides on health and visas explain the details.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Tanzania safari package cost?

Our packages start from USD 1,800 per person for a short shared safari and rise to several thousand dollars for luxury fly-in trips. A typical midrange private safari of five to seven days costs between USD 2,000 and USD 3,000 per person for two travellers sharing. See our full cost guide for a breakdown.

Are park fees included in the price?

Yes. Park entrance fees, conservation fees and the Ngorongoro Crater service fee are included in every package unless the itinerary says otherwise.

What is the best length for a first Tanzania safari?

Most first-time visitors choose five to seven days, which allows the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater without rushing. If time is short, a three-day trip to Tarangire, Manyara and Ngorongoro is a good introduction.

Can I get a private safari instead of a shared one?

Every package on this page is a private safari: your own vehicle, your own driver-guide and your own schedule. We also offer lower-cost joining safaris for solo travellers and small groups.

How do I book?

Choose a package, press Request this trip and send your dates and the number of travellers. We confirm availability and send a quote, then reserve with a deposit.

What does a typical itinerary include?

A classic seven day safari includes Tarangire, Lake Manyara, three nights in the Serengeti and a morning in the Ngorongoro Crater. Shorter trips drop the Serengeti or fly to it.

Is a safari package safe?

Yes. Tanzania safaris are well established, and the main risks are health related, such as malaria and sun. Your guide manages wildlife safety in the park.
